Lupus nephritis

Lupus or SLE is a multi-system autoimmune disease where race, gender, ethnicity, age and country of birth affects incidence, prevalence and the clinical features of the disease. This disease is mostly triggered in people between their 20s and 30s, with women being diagnosed 10 times more than men. This disease is common and serious among blacks and Asians, with a high prevalence of alopecia and visceral involvement observed in Sri Lankans. It presents a major risk with significant morbidity and mortality. Lupus nephritis is kidney inflammation which is a severe form of SLE where even with treatment, 10 to 30 percent of people develop kidney failure.
