Sri Lanka is a South Asian developing country in epidemiological transition. The community prevalence of Coronary Heart Disease is estimated to be 9.3%, and prevalence of stroke in the Colombo district alone is 1.04%. The incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Sri Lanka has increased drastically over the past decade. The annual mortality rate per 100,000 people rose to 229.6 indicating the annual years of healthy life loss increased to 4.640 per 100,000 people. This in turn emerged due to the transition of socio-economic, epidemiological and demographic transition over the last few decades.
