Sri Lanka is witnessing a shift in the disease burden from communicable diseases to noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). 103,500 people die in Sri Lanka each year due to NCDs, which accounts for 75% of all deaths in the country. The NCD epidemic poses a serious economic issue, as a significant proportion of the annual health budget is spent on NCD treatment.
